mary's treasures

"but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often." Luke 2:19 (NLT)

This is probably one of my favorite verses in all of the Christmas story. I just love the images that these words conjure up in my mind. I can so vividly imagine Mary, so young and afraid, sitting in a stable holding the King of the universe. So many thoughts must have been swirling around within the confines of her mind and heart... a heart swelling with pride as she looked at her beautiful, perfect newborn son, and also humility, knowing that this same child is the Son of the Living God...

And so tonight, in the midst of shopping, parties, cooking and wrapping, I want to take some time to ponder the blessings in my life... to treasure the things that will last, and empty my mind of the trappings of this world that will soon fade away.
